HorseSisters ranch is called the Common Sense Ranch for the express purpose of giving every child, able bodied or differently-abled, that comes through their front gate the chance to begin to think on their feet. These children are often drawn to their powerful, and fast horses, unknowing these horses are capable of providing instant feedback for all their behaviors. Each child begins the Stable Life educational program when they come through the pasture gate and a horse becomes their partner. The first skill they use at the ranch is diversity: to notice that no two horses look or act the same, just as each of them is wonderfully different and unique. Through their experiences with the horse, whether they are there an hour or a year, the program allows youths of all ages personal self management skills such as; demonstrating independence, decision making, attitude inventory, refusal and self-advocacy skills, anti-bullying, goal setting, anger management, responsibility, personal and social behavior and respect for diversity. The horse helps children of all ages develop critical thinking skills, self confidence, express their feelings, use coping strategies, deal with stress, use listening and refusal skills, problem solve and conflict resolve, value teamwork, and follow directions and rules. Often children attending the ranch are also awarded various benefits from their time well spent through their own places of worship, scouting and youth programs and school scholarships. The Common Sense Ranch also has internships that can even result in acquiring vocational placements. Without being 100% focused on education, children learn they can safely interact with the horses on the ranch and perhaps stay safe and productive in the world.
